Benign tumor, the uterine fibroid is installed on the lining of the uterus, especially during premenopause. To remove them, many women support surgery. Herbal medicine, targeting the estrogen-progesterone balance, can however sometimes overcome it.
It is a common condition in Europe: 40% of women over 50 develop a uterine fibroid . It is a benign tumor , therefore non-cancerous, which grows at the expense of the muscle fibers of the uterus. Very firm, its volume varies from a few millimeters to several tens of centimeters , and multiple ways. It often causes too much and too long periods , or blood loss between cycles , accompanied by lower abdominal pain. Be careful, these symptoms are often confused with those of endometriosis , which is treated differently.
Fibroids are formed under the influence of several factors: a hormonal imbalance - too much estrogen, the woman producing less progesterone in the ten years preceding menopause - but also by taking growth hormones. When localized, the fibroid can be removed by simple surgery ; but if the whole of the matrix is reached, a hysterectomy is usually performed (total removal of the uterus).
In herbal medicine, a well-conducted treatment will give excellent results in the treatment of fibroids, hemorrhagic or otherwise, under the effect of progesterone derivatives or an improvement of the estrogen-progesterone ratio . The yam (Dioscorea mexicana), for example, contains an active ingredient, diosgenin, which allows the female body to produce natural progesterone. Other plants will help reduce the size of a fibroid by their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect on the small pelvis and strengthen the venous and hemostatic insufficiency. Others will have a painkiller action.
Associating five plants, Femiconf intervenes on these different plans :
- The lady's mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris) is traditionally used to combat hyperestrogenism in premenstrual syndromes, dysmenorrhea, as well as in pre-menopause;
- The vitex (Vitex agnus castus) stimulates natural progesterone secretion by decreasing estrogen production;
- Yarrow (Achillea millefolium) has an anti-inflammatory and diuretic action. Antioxidant, its hormonal activity remains weak. It decongests the small pelvis;
- The red grapevine (Vitis vinifera) present anthocyanosides, phenolic compounds and proanthocyanidins. The first have a significant vitamin P activity that fights venous insufficiency and capillary fragility. Red vine has an antihemorrhagic effect;
- The nettle (Urtica dioica) , rich in carotene, vitamin C, potassium and calcium, is an anti-inflammatory, painkiller, hemostatic and remineralizing.
- Vitamin E intensifies these actions. Antioxidant, it acts by regulating the hormonal disorders triggering fibroids. In addition, we can add the evening primrose capsules, powerful anti-inflammatory.
